Nitish Rana led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally registered their third victory of the tournament after going on an abysmal losing streak of four matches. KKR's star all-rounder Andre Russell expressed his relief after his side's convincing victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The visitors were put into bat first by RCB's stand-in skipper Virat Kohli and made a rollicking start to the match, thanks to Jason Roy's scathing assault at the top of the order. Even though Andre Russell was not able to make any significant contribution with the bat in the first innings, the burly all-rounder dished out a brilliant spell of fast bowling in the second innings.
"We really needed that victory. You know we were under the pump for the last few games. But now this win makes us feel better, two points keep you happy. Batting first tonight, we know anything around 200 would be great. Scoreboard pressure is always good to have. It doesn't matter whether you bat first or bat second.
Once I get the ball, I try to do my best. I try to contribute in whatever way I can. Still confident with the bat but got a brilliant yorker from Siraj. We are taking game by game and day by day. So one game at a time for us. Recovery is very important. As I get older I need to get smarter with my body," Russell said after the match.
Picking up the wicket of Virat Kohli was very important: Russell
Talking about his impact with the ball, Russell revealed that the wicket of Virat Kohli was crucial for the side as he was looking in fine touch. He also lavished praise on prodigious young leggie Suyash Sharma, who is growing in confidence with each passing game. He also hailed his team's fighting spirit, which helped the side register their first win after four matches.
"Picking up the wicket of Virat Kohli was very important. I'm happy with the result, and I think well done to everyone. You bowled well, Sharma, Suyash. He bowled very well as well. Coming on, under pressure in the powerplay, bowling to Faf, Kohli, he kept his calm. We showed a lot of fighting spirit," he further stated.
