'Nice start, nice to get away quickly' - Travis Head opens up after dominant show in the opening England T20I

In the opening T20I of the three-match series, Australia's Travis Head set the tone with a blistering innings that helped the tourists register a convincing 28-run victory over England in Southampton. The opener's aggressive approach entertained the crowd and showed Australia's aggressive intent in the shortest format of the game.

Head's explosive 59 off just 23 balls was the crucial part of Australia's innings. His partnership with Matthew Short, who contributed 41 from 26 balls, gave Australia a flying start with an 86-run opening stand.

"Nice start. Nice to get away quickly. I just tried to score," Head said after the match.

The Australian opener's performance was noteworthy given the different conditions compared to their recent series against Scotland. The southpaw revealed that the management and the captain have given him a free hand to play his natural attacking game.

"The wickets against Scotland were very different. We were trying to use the pace on the ball. Guys have been playing together for the last couple of years. The coach and captain want me to bat freely. I try to whack it every time," he added.

Australia registered a 28-run win in the first T20I

The opener's quick-fire innings helped the side post a total of 179, despite a middle-order collapse that saw them lose eight wickets for 61 runs after a strong start. England's spinners, particularly Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, managed to slow down the visitor's momentum, but Head's innings had already done the damage.

In response, the Three Lions' chase never really took off, with Australia's bowlers, led by Adam Zampa (2/20) and Sean Abbott (3/28), keeping a tight check on the scoring rate. The home team was dismantled by 151 in 19.2 overs, falling short by 28 runs.

With the win, the side have started the series on a strong note and will be looking to carry the same momentum in the next two games before heading into the one-dayers.
