With reports of Roger Binny replacing Sourav Ganguly as the next BCCI president, the ruling party of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running a political vendetta against the former cricketer. Ganguly, who was backed by BJP before the previous election suddenly ran out of confidence as he is likely to get denied a reappointment.

Kunal Ghosh, one of their spokesperson of TMC has issued a statement stating how ‘humiliating’ it is for the former skipper. He feels that BJP tried to rope Sourav in before the state elections but on his denial, the party turned its back on him. Ghosh also questioned the fact that Jay Shah, Home minister Amit Shah’s son has been backed to continue as BCCI’s secretary for a second term but Sourav is likely to get denied the opportunity.

“But since the BJP floated such propaganda during and after the polls, it will surely be the responsibility of the BJP to respond to such speculations (that politics is behind Ganguly not getting a second term as BCCI chief). It seems the BJP is trying to humiliate Sourav,” said the 54-year-old.

Dr Santanu Sen, a Member of the Parliament (Rajya Sabha) wasn’t shy in taking a dig at BJP either. He questioned BJP to state the reason behind the move.

“Another example of political vendetta. Son of Amit Shah can be retained as Secretary of BCCI but Sourav Ganguly can't be. Is it because he is from the State of Mamata Banerjee or he didn't join BJP? We are with you Dada,” the Rajya Sabha MP tweeted.

TMC should stop politicising every issue: BJP rejects allegations

A counter from BJP was very much expected and it didn’t take much time as BJP’s national vice president Dilip Ghosh asked TMC not to involve politics in every matter. He, in return, also said how the saffron party never tried to rope Sourav in before the elections.

“We don't know when the BJP tried to induct Sourav Ganguly into the party. Sourav Ganguly is a cricketing legend. Some people are now shedding crocodile tears about the changes in BCCI. Did they have any role when he took over as BCCI president? The TMC should stop politicising every issue,” said Dilip Ghosh.
