Tristan Stubbs blocked himself from going crazy to find consistency

Tristan Stubbs made his international debut in June 2022, at the age of 21. He had very few domestic matches in the CV but Cricket South Africa identified his potential pretty early and pushed him to the senior men’s squad. The youngster showed glimpses of his class but when it came to consistency, it was nowhere to be found. Despite so, South Africa backed him for his versatility and it's finally showing results.

In IPL 2024, Stubbs played a key role for Delhi Capitals in the middle overs as he hit 378 runs in 14 matches at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 190.90. Later, he played some vital knocks for South Africa in the T20 World Cup and most recently, he hit a half-century against West Indies in the first Test of the series. Stubbs has finally learned the art of being consistent and speaking about that, the flamboyant batter mentioned that he changed his mindset to find momentum.

The 24-year-old added that he was younger when he first started but now, he has gained experience which is helping. 

“I think I’m just a bit older. When I started, I think I played about 20 or so domestic games, and I didn’t know my game. I think the biggest thing for me has been the mental side. Every game I played in the IPL, SA20 my mind was going crazy. But now I have adopted a mindset of enjoying what I’m doing. I’m a bit older and I’ve played a bit more cricket than when I first started,” Stubbs was quoted as saying by IOL.

I’ve tried my best to forget about the T20 World Cup: Stubbs

South Africa were in the driving seat to win the T20 World Cup but Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh clutched to help India pick up a seven-run win. With 30 runs required from the same number of deliveries, it was South Africa’s game to close and they eventually did as wickets fell quick. Speaking about the heartbreak, Stubbs mentioned that he has tried his best to forget the tournament as it was a difficult moment for him.

“The World Cup final will come up when you don’t want it to. I’ve tried my best to forget about it. It wasn’t easy, and it still is not easy getting asked about it,” said Stubbs.
