Mylee Hogan, an Australian TV presenter, working for Channel 7’s Sunrise was taken off the air for a few days and was later demoted to a field reporter for her disgraceful joke on the death of Australian legend Glenn McGrath.
Hogan, who was part of the morning show wanted to follow a TikTok trend on-air but it went wrong horribly. While introducing about their next segment, the anchor jokingly commented that the cricketer is dead in order to record the response of his fellow crew. However, that didn’t work well as her co-hosts Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew were stunned by the comment and quickly dissociated from that.
“Don't even...that's not funny,” Bartholomew said on-air. “I don't get that at all. That’s so not funny… it's crazy,” Beretta added. Meanwhile, Hogan, who couldn’t read the room kept on laughing as Bartholomew later apologised to all the viewers.
Mylee's joke heavily criticised on social media as well
However, the matter didn’t quite end there. Her insensitive joke was heavily criticised on social media and netizens even called her to be ‘immature’. As per reports, there were people who were calling to boycott the show if Hogan wasn’t removed from the flagship show of the channel.
After a heavy backlash from the audience, the management removed Hogan from the show but without any official statement. Bartholomew was seen replacing her and Monique Wright was moved into the spot next to Mark Beretta.
Meanwhile, Hogan was back on-air on Thursday as she was reporting about the growing population of Sydney. It was later reported that the former presenter was demoted to a field reporter just 13 days after being introduced as the host. However, an official statement from the channel is yet to be released.
Melbourne will have to wait a little longer to dethrone Sydney as Australia's most popular city, with new government data revealing the Victorian capital experienced the steepest population decline of any other capital city during the pandemic. @MyleeHogan pic.twitter.com/JgFCU1fDsU
