The micro-blogging site Twitter got flooded with epic reactions after Sharjah Warriors convincingly defeated Gulf Giants by an ample margin of 21 runs riding on a superb spell from pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. It was the 14th clash of the ongoing ILT20 in the UAE, played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Giants won the toss and elected to field first. Sharjah managed to reach 151 for the loss of seven wickets as Tom Kohler-Cadmore (36 runs off 20 balls) and Joe Denly (58 runs off 43 balls) powered them to the total despite not getting any substantial help from other batters. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for Giants as he snared a three-fer while giving away just 25 runs in his four-over spell.
In reply, Giants got humbled by the Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who bagged a fantastic five-wicket haul and played a significant role in halting Giants' winning juggernaut. Naveen finished with 5 for 38 in 3.4 overs and though proved slightly expensive but was effective nonetheless. Giants folded for 130 in 19.4 overs.
Before the clash, Gulf Giants were undefeated and were placed (still are) on top of the points table. They had defeated Desert Vipers in their previous game by five wickets after chasing down the target of 196 runs in 19.3 overs. Chris Lynn and Shimron Hetmyer had scored half-centuries for Giants. On the other hand, the Sharjah Warriors had won just a single game out of four and were on the fifth position on the ladder.
