The inaugural edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 has witnessed some standout performances ever since it got underway on Saturday, January 14. While Bangladesh stunned Australia by three wickets in the curtain-raiser, the emerging cricketers’ competition has now witnessed its first-ever hat-trick.

The player to achieve this unique feat happens to be Madison Landsman representing South Africa and she registered a well-deserved hat-trick to her name during the clash against Scotland in Benoni on Monday, January 16. The hosts went on to get the better of the Scottish team by 44 runs.

Madison Landsman rattles Scotland with a match-winning hat-trick

The Scottish bowlers had succeeded in restricting the Proteas to a below-par total of 112/7 in their first innings and all they had to do was bat well to pull off a second upset of the competition. However, Madison Landsman had other plans and she executed them perfectly when it mattered the most.

The 18-year-old leggie spun a web around the Scottish batters in the 15th over when they had lost only half their side and were in some position to take the game away from the South Africans. Madison accounted for Maryam Faisal on the second delivery of that over. She then dismissed Niamh Muir and Orla Montogomery to completely take the game away from Scotland.

There was absolutely no point of comeback for the Scottish side after they were reduced to 60/8 and their innings was wrapped in no time for just 68 runs from exactly 17 overs.

Madison Landsman’s incredible over helped the hosts live to fight another day as they went on to register their first win of the tournament. It was indeed a much-needed one for the Proteas after they suffered a heavy seven-wicket loss to India in their campaign opener.

Landsman finished with outstanding bowling figures of 4/16 from her quota of four overs. She had also picked up the wicket of tail-ended Maisie Maceira.
