USA completed a dominant run at the 2026 Americas Qualifier in the Cayman Islands, winning all six matches to earn a berth at the 2027 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, to be staged in Bangladesh and Nepal. The tournament ran from August 9 to 16, 2026 at Jimmy Powell Oval, with USA finishing six points ahead of Canada at the top of the standings.

The double round-robin competition brought together USA, Canada, Argentina and a NextGen XI made up of players from other Associate Member boards across the Americas region. USA defeated each opponent twice without dropping a single game, claiming the qualifying spot in convincing fashion.

Chetna Pagydyala, who featured in the 2025 USA Under-19 World Cup squad and has also represented the senior side, captained the team throughout the event.

How did USA perform against Canada?

The opening fixture on August 9, 2026 set the standard for what followed. Canada were bowled out for 65/7, and USA knocked off the target in just 11 overs to win by eight wickets. Mahek Desai and Saanvi Immadi each claimed three wickets in that match, dismantling the Canadian top order with sustained pressure.

USA then faced Canada again on August 16, 2026, the final day of the qualifier, and won once more to seal an unbeaten tournament record. Victories against Argentina and the NextGen XI across the remaining round-robin fixtures completed a clean sweep for the side.

Desai was the standout bowler across the full event, taking 16 wickets to finish as the tournament's leading wicket-taker. Her performances throughout the week earned her the Player of the Tournament award.

What does this qualification mean for USA's U19 women's programme?

This will mark USA's appearance at the global Under-19 Women's T20 tournament for the third edition running, having qualified for both the 2023 and 2025 editions. The Americas Qualifier itself was a landmark occasion, representing the first time a formal regional competition had been staged for the Americas zone. In the two previous cycles, no other nation from the region was available to compete alongside USA.

At the 2025 edition held in Malaysia, the USA Under-19 women's side advanced to the Super Six stage. They restricted New Zealand to 97 runs in that phase but fell 18 runs short in reply, a result that underlined the side's growing ability to challenge established cricketing nations.

USA now join Samoa, who came through the East Asia-Pacific regional qualifier, and UAE, who secured their place via the Asia regional qualifier, among the confirmed participants for 2027. The Africa and Europe qualifiers are scheduled to follow later in 2026, with the full field yet to be confirmed.
