Jonny Bairstow was dismissed under bizarre circumstances on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test. He ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green in the last ball of the 52nd over. The wicketkeeper-batter felt that the ball was dead and left his crease. To his surprise, his opposite number, Alex Carey, under-armed the ball through to the stumps and caught him short of his crease.

The umpires deemed that the ball was still in play as Bairstow was forced to head back to the pavilion, stumped off a pace bowler.

After the incident, an old video of MS Dhoni recalling Ian Bell during the second Test in 2011 at Trent Bridge resurfaced. Ian Bell felt he had hit a boundary off the last ball before Tea. However, Praveen Kumar managed to save the boundary with a dive. He threw the ball back, and Bell was found short of his crease. The England batter had already walked off, thinking that the ball had gone for a boundary. The replays showed that the ball didn't reach the fence and Bell was given out.

Indian captain MS Dhoni, however, decided to withdraw the appeal and bring back Bell to the crease. He was lauded for his show of spirit back then.

England captain Ben Stokes put on a show on Day 5 as he scored his 13th Test hundred while chasing 371 in the fourth innings. He managed to give England hopes of equalling the series. However, when he was dismissed for a magnificent knock of 155, the Australian bowlers made light work of the tailenders, emerging victorious by 43 runs.

With this win, Australia went one step closer to retaining the coveted Ashes urn as they are 2-0 ahead in the five-Test series with three more games to play.

The third Test begins on July 6 and will be played at Headingley, Leeds.
