In a recent development, star Indian batter, Virat Kohli, is set to rejoin the team ahead of the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023. Kohli, who had briefly left the team for personal reasons, is now ready to make his return.
Kohli's departure from the Indian camp raised questions and eyebrows, but sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have clarified the situation. According to a BCCI spokesperson, Kohli had sought permission from both the board and team management to attend to a personal matter in Mumbai. This clarification puts to rest any speculations regarding his absence from the squad.
"He will be joining us later in the evening and will be travelling with the team to Chennai tomorrow," the spokesperson said as quoted by Cricbuzz, providing reassurance to fans.
Kohli's absence would have meant missing the second warm-up fixture against the Netherlands, which was scheduled at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. However, due to bad weather conditions, the match had to be abandoned.
As per recent reports from Cricbuzz, Kohli left the team to fly to Mumbai from Guwahati, where India were supposed to play their first practice game against England. Unfortunately, rain played spoilsport, leading to the cancellation of that game as well.
It's been revealed that Kohli has an important engagement with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of world cricket. He is slated to attend this engagement before making his way to Chennai, where India are scheduled to play their opening fixture against Australia.
The captains' customary photo session ahead of the World Cup is set to take place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, with all the captains expected to arrive in the city by tonight. Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly counting down the days until the ODI World Cup commences in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5. Indian team will start their world cup journey on October 8 against Australia.
