Ever since the former cricketer Ramiz Raja was removed as the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, he has made the headlines for his critical comments targeting Najam Sethi, the newly appointed chairman. He has questioned the 74-year-old about his new policies and also blamed him for practising nepotism and favouritism in Pakistan cricket.
In a recent interaction with the Pakistan TV channel Geo Super, the 60-year-old lashed out at Sethi and also gave a brief insight into what went behind his forceful exit. He stated that the new management doesn’t give enough importance to the sport and thus, the future can be very dark if it doesn’t change.
Raja iterated, “If you don't give enough respect to this great sport, the future is going to be very dark. It's not right when you don't let a system run smoothly and come to run the country's cricket with the help of nepotism and politics. We first need to understand if there is any law and order or not. You changed the constitution for the heck of it... to bring someone, perhaps yours loyalist in."
"What is the use of a non-cricketer in cricket?... this should be the debate. This field is ours, we know what to do. We don't need crutches to run cricket like this administration is doing,” he continued.
No big team used to visit us before, but that changed: Ramiz Raja
Ramiz Raja wasn’t shy to pat himself on his back as he mentioned all the achievements that the Pakistan team have achieved during his tenure. The former opener reminded that he was able to convince a lot of teams to come and play in Pakistan, which was not the case in earlier times.
“Pakistan's winning percentage was over 60, the third-best in the world. We were able to set new records in terms of fan engagement. The one year was a golden period for Pakistan cricket. No big team used to visit us before, but that changed. There were such brilliant performances. We are considered one of the top teams in white-ball cricket,” the former chairman concluded.
