We don't think about what has happened in past in the ICC tournaments and don't think we should be reminded every time: Rohit Sharma

The World Test Championship final is almost here as India and Australia will be locking horns in the summit clash from Wednesday, June 7, at the Oval in London. India have an uphill task at hand to end their trophy drought by winning the mace, as they haven’t won an ICC title since 2013. Ahead of the big game, captain Rohit Sharma got irked after getting reminded of the same by a journalist.

During the press conference ahead of the final, a journalist asked the Indian captain whether not winning an ICC title since 2013 adds extra pressure on the players ahead of the big game. The journo got a stern reply from Sharma, who said that the team is well aware of what they’ve won and what they haven’t

“We are aware of what the team has won and what they haven’t won. It is not useful to just think about it again and again,” Sharma was quoted as saying by SportsTiger.

The 36-year-old further said that he was asked the same question during the T20 World Cup 2022, and the team management and all the players are trying their best to focus on the upcoming game to get the best possible result for the same.

Notably, India have managed to reach at least the semi-final of all the ICC tournaments since 2014, except the T20 World Cup 2021. However, a title has eluded the top cricketing nation as they’ve fallen short time and again, either in the semi-final or the final.

Hence, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be eager to end their trophy drought by winning the WTC final in their second attempt after getting beaten by New Zealand by eight wickets in the inaugural final in 2021.

Coming into the game, India have had an upper hand over the Aussies since 2017, having beaten them in the last four Test series played between the two nations. However, they will be playing without their big players, namely Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, in the big game, which can prove to be detrimental to their chances of winning the final.
