Rahul Dravid calls Virat Kohli 'wrong-footed inswinging menace' in press conference, video viral

In an unexpected twist at the 2023 World Cup, the Indian cricket team has found themselves without a sixth bowling option due to Hardik Pandya's unfortunate injury. In response to this situation, head coach Rahul Dravid jokingly referred to Virat Kohli as a "wrong-footed inswinger menace" and hinted at the possibility of Kohli contributing with the ball if needed.

Before the World Cup, captain Rohit Sharma had hinted that both he and Kohli could lend their bowling skills to the team if necessary. True to his words, when Pandya got injured against Bangladesh, Kohli stepped up and bowled three crucial overs, finishing Pandya's over. However, this turned out to be his final bowling stint in the tournament.

During a press conference in Bengaluru, Dravid acknowledged the absence of an additional bowling option and expressed confidence in Kohli's ability to fill the void when required. In a lighthearted manner, Dravid even commented on Kohli's bowling action, which has always intrigued fans.

"Yes, we don't have the 6th bowling option, but we have a wrong-footed inswinger menace whom we can back for a few overs. He was close to bowl in the last game with the crowd pushing him," Dravid stated during a press conference in Bengaluru.

In Pandya's absence, Suryakumar Yadav has been fulfilling the role of a specialist batter at number 6. Although India strengthened their bowling lineup by bringing in Mohammed Shami for Shardul Thakur, the team still lacks a sixth bowler to depend on in case of an emergency.

As Dravid pointed out, Kohli may be called upon to contribute with the ball when needed, especially if one of the main bowlers has an off day. With India's unbeaten record in the tournament, having won all seven ODIs, they remain a formidable contender. South Africa, with six wins under their belt, are also a strong competitor. Dravid shows confidence in Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja

Dravid believes Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja can offset the impact of Hardik's ouster. "It's nice to have that experience of people like him [Suryakumar Yadav] and Jadeja at the back end just to be able to read that situation and play according to the situation. And that's really important in one-day cricket. T20 cricket sometimes, you know, you just have to play in one way. One day, sometimes lower down the order you can actually... you need to be able to be smart enough of how to read a game and the situation," Dravid explained.
