Former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh criticized West Indies opener Kjorn Ottley during the third and final ODI held at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on February 6. Notably, Australia won the final ODI by eight wickets and completed a 3-0 whitewash in the series.

After opting to bowl first, Australia bundled out West Indies for a paltry 86 in 24.1 overs. Xavier Bartlett was the pick of bowlers as he picked up 4/21. The hosts then chased down the target in 6.5 overs, courtesy of wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis' unbeaten 35 off 16 balls.

The match transpired as a one-sided affair and Shai Hope and Co. received massive criticism for their terrible performance against the World Champions. Waugh, who was the commentator during the game, particularly lambasted Ottley, who could score only eight off seven deliveries. He was the first victim of Bartlett and the way he was dismissed made the Aussie legend furious as he called him an 'idiot'.

Ottley was facing Bartlett in the third over, and the bowler delivered a full and swinging delivery from the middle. The Windies batter attempted to force it away, but missed, and it eventually struck his pads. The hosts appealed for lbw, and the umpire gave out. Ottley spoke with his opening partner Alick Athanaze and made the decision to not review. Ottley would have resumed batting if he had appealed for a review as the replays showed a definite inside edge.

"He’s smashed it!! what an idiot. It sounded like there were two noises. My goodness, what are they doing? That is just unforgivable," Waugh said.

Meanwhile, the Windies captain summed up his team's performance, saying, "Not sure if we can make sense of it, our batters let us down. We need to do some real searching. Can’t really put your finger on one thing, comes down to mindset. Few things we can look at but we didn’t bat as well as we should have."
