India went on to win the World Cup 2023 first semi-final against New Zealand by a massive margin of 70 runs. However, before the game started, there were reports that host nation had switched the pitch for the all-important clash. They were keen on playing on their preferred pitch and not the fresh one which was kept ready for semi-final.

India cricketer Shubman Gill spoke about the same matter during his post-match press conference, stating he wasn't aware about the whole matter.

"I have found out just now that there was a controversy over the pitch. What was the controversy," said Shubman Gill in his post-match press conference as quoted by Outlook.

I would have got my hundred had I not suffered the cramps: Shubman Gill

Talking about the semi-final match, Gill and Rohit Sharma were again on the mark in giving India a dreamy start. However, severe cramps hindered Gill's show at Wankhede while he was on his way to achieve his maiden World Cup ton. Gill retired on 79* while India produced a massive total of 397 runs against New Zealand.

Gill did return later in the match but the match scenario didn't allow him to reach his ton as he ended his innings on 80* runs with the help of eight fours and three sixes. India are now set to play the final of ODI World Cup 2023 on 19th November in Ahmedabad.

"I would have got my hundred had I not suffered the cramps. The total which we were trying to get to, irrespective of me getting a hundred or not, we were able to get there which we had in fact hoped for around the 25th or the 30th over. We made that many so it does not matter if I got a hundred or not," added Gill.
