There have been multiple injury concerns ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5 in India. Wanindu Hasaranga, star Sri Lanka all-rounder, who was adjudged Player of the Tournament in the last edition of the T20 Asia Cup, has become the latest cricketer to join the list of cricketers who will miss the mega tournament.

Other than Hasaranga, Sri Lanka will also miss the service of Dushmantha Chameera in the World Cup and will depend mostly on the young guns like Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesa Pathirana and Dilshan Madhushanka.

Ace pacers Anrich Nortje, Jofra Archer and Naseem Shah too have been ruled of the competition. Jason Roy has been dropped from the squad at the very last moment while as Harry Brook has been announced as his replacement. South Africa will also miss Sisanda Magala apart from Nortje, having named Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams as replacements.

When it comes to New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson is yet to play a competitive match since he picked up an ACL injury in March during the 2023 IPL. He has been included in New Zealand's World Cup squad but his fitness is being closely monitored. Furthermore, pacer Tim Southee recently suffered a thumb injury, which can force him out of the competition while Michael Bracewell has been ruled out following an Achilles injury.

From India, Rishabh Pant will be missing the tournament as he is recovering from multiple injuries suffered in a car crash last year and while premier leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has failed to earn a call-up. Currently, Axar Patel is recovering from a left quadricep injury but he is expected to be fit for the World Cup.

Travis Head’s future, meanwhile, is hanging in balance as he is currently dealing with a hand injury. He is currently recovering and is lilely to miss a few matches of the World Cup if not the whole tournament, with  Marnus Labuschagne, who is not part of the World Cup squad currently, expected to get into the mix.
