Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, the two stalwarts of Indian cricket have registered for the auction ahead of the inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL (WIPL). The former India skipper and pace spearhead duo in Mithali and Jhulan have opened the doors to featuring in the top-tier league as per reports by the Hindustan Times.

The news of the two veteran cricketers will surely hand a major boost to the competition as both of them have represented India from the front during their stint with the national team. Mithali last played her T20I game in 2019 against England before calling time on her career from all formats last year in June.

Speaking about Jhulan Goswami, the lanky bowler made a rather diplomatic statement on featuring in the league in 2022.

“As of now, I haven’t decided because so far, the Women’s IPL has not been officially announced. We are hopeful that it might come in the coming season. Let’s wait for the official announcement and then I will decide. At this moment, I am ending my career in international cricket. I have enjoyed every time,” said Jhulan.

WIPL to begin in March 2023

The WIPL will undoubtedly serve as a terrific platform for the local as well as the overseas players to gain exposure and refine their game. If the reports of Jhulan and Mithali participating in the event are to be believed, a lot of young cricketers will look forward to sharing the dressing rooms and playing under their wing to gain experience.

It is understood that the season is scheduled to begin from March and is likely to be played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Adding to this, the auction for the inaugural edition is tentatively scheduled to take place in early February.

IPL teams in the name of Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians are interested in making offers for teams in the WIPL as per ESPNcricinfo.
