‘Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha’ - Basit Ali reflects on Ishan Kishan’s exclusion from national team

Star India batter Ishan Kishan has had a roller coaster of a season with the national team. Being a part of India’s ODI World Cup squad in 2023, Ishan Kishan has fallen way down the pecking order, and his chances of getting back in the side look bleak with every series. 

The batter made the decision to withdraw his name midway through the South Africa tour last year due to travel fatigue, which didn't go down well with the BCCI management. His decision saw him excluded from the central contract list and omitted from the scheme of things. It is worth noting that the Indian team is going through a transitional phase with the retirement of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja from T20Is.

Speaking of his downfall, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali came forward and blamed Ishan Kishan himself for his situation, stating that he has gotten into fashion. 

"Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha (He too got into fashion a bit)," Basit said on his YouTube channel.

Sri Lanka deserved to not qualify for the Champions Trophy: Ali

Furthermore, Basit Ali came forward and lambasted Sri Lanka for their subpar performances in the first two T20Is against India. It is worth noting that Sri Lanka has been going through a rough phase as they failed to qualify for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Basit Ali stated that Sri Lanka do not deserve to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025, and it is thanks to their subpar performances that they find themselves in such a situation.

"Sri Lanka deserved to not qualify for the Champions Trophy. It seems as if they are also more concerned about maintaining friendships, just as we have seen in the Pakistan team. My personal opinion is that their women's team have performed better. Sri Lanka's men's team should learn from the women's team how to keep the belief," Basit Ali said.
