Pakistan women skipper Bismah Maroof named "wrong bowling" as the major reason that caused her side to go down against India in their campaign opener of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.

The Women in Blue were clinical against Pakistan, with the climax of the clash being the major attraction as the Indian pair of Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues ensured India had the last laugh.

"We were good at many times, but we did some mistakes as a bowling unit," the 31-year-old said while speaking in the post-match presentation.

Maroof reckoned that she was satisfied with how her team batted as she herself was the top-scorer with an unbeaten 68 off 55 while youngster Ayesha Naseem smacked an unbeaten 43 off just 25. However, she was critical of the team's bowling tactics, especially when Richa and Jemimah were setting up a solid partnership, which eventually cost them the match."Lot of learnings, planning to be better next game," she said.

Jemimah scored an unbeaten 53 off 38 and was involved in 58-run partnership with Richa Ghosh (unbeaten 31 off 20) to take India across the line with an over to spare. Meanwhile, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur appreciated Pakistan's batting as well as the heroics of Jemimah and Richa with the bat.

"Pakistan batted well but end of the day we wanted to win the game. Jemimah and Richa batted really well. All the players are keen to do well for the team. Whoever is getting an opportunity is pushing themselves. Good sign for us. Every match is important, no matter the opponent, but obviously Pakistan is a big game. We'll love to have some time in the nets. We want to work on a few things," she said.
