‘Won't be difficult if he plays 30 more Tests’ - Shoaib Akhtar backs Virat Kohli to surpass Sachin Tendulkar's century tally

"Easily he can play for about 6 to 8 years. If he plays 30-50 more Test matches, I'm sure it won't be difficult for him to score 25 centuries," said Akhtar.

India star batter Virat Kohli is a part of the three-match ODI series against Australia. Kohli top-scored with 31 runs off 35 balls in India’s 10-wicket loss against Australia in the second ODI as the Steve Smith-led side levelled the series 1-1. The series decider will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar shared some priceless advice for Kohli ahead of the final ODI between India and Australia. Akhtar feels that Kohli should only prioritise playing two of the oldest formats in international cricket, as he loses energy if he plays a lot of cricket in the T20I format. Meanwhile, Akhtar has also backed the India batting icon to shatter Sachin Tendulkar's century record in world cricket.

“As a cricketer, if you ask me, I feel he should stick with only Test and ODI formats. T20I unki energy bahot nikaal deta hai (T20I format drains a lot of his energy). He is a very excited kind of character," Akhtar told Sports Tak.

"He wants to be out there, he wants to look good. He wants to have a good time in T20Is. He likes it. But at times, he needs to save his body. How old is he right now? 34 right? Easily he can play for about 6 to 8 years. If he plays 30-50 more Test matches, I'm sure it won't be difficult for him to score 25 centuries in those Test matches,” he added.

Notably, Kohli ended his Test century drought in the final game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma and Co. retained the Trophy by clinching the series 2-1 and also also booked their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
