Team India have locked horns with Kane Williamson-led New Zealand in the second of the three-match , T20I series. Ahead of the series Umran Malik said that he is working on variations in the shortest format.

Umran, the young pace spearhead has the unique ability to clock 150 km/h consistently for the sides he has represented. Furthermore, he clocked the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 at 157 km/h. Despite being known for his pace, Umran has leaked away runs more often as the batters make good use of his pace to their advantage.

However, the J&K sensation voiced that he is currently working on sharpening his game by adding variations in his deliveries.

“It is always a proud moment for me playing for India. Coming back to the team is very nice. I want to play for India for a long time. I am working on developing new deliveries. Like, I am working on slowers and yorkers for T20s. Also, I am working very well on pitching good length and hard length balls. I am enjoying a lot by working alongside the coaches and feels really good,” said Umran in a pre-match chat with broadcasters.

Umran Malik highlights his time at NCA

The 22-year-old further stated that he has learnt plenty while spending time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and working with the national side.

“I trained at the NCA and worked alongside Troy (Cooley, the NCA fast-bowling coach). I am working here in the side (with the national team) and it feels very nice as I get to learn from the experiences of many people here and can see the difference in terms of accuracy. I have to bowl fast, but I will also bowl with the variations,” added Umran.

The pace spearhead along with Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill have been excluded from the playing XI against New Zealand in the ongoing second T20I match. It remains to be seen if Umran will get his chance to represent the squad in the final T20I match against the Kiwis.
