In a triumphant display at the Wankhede Stadium, Shreyanka Patil showcased her mettle as she spearheaded India's victory against England in the third T20I of the series. Her stellar performance earned her the Player of the Match title as India Women secured a five-wicket win over the visitors. The young cricketer attributed her recent growth to her experiences with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and her stint representing India A.
Before making her international debut, Patil made history as the inaugural Indian cricketer to secure a spot in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, marking a significant milestone in her career. Coming to the match, the 21-year-old's standout figures of three wickets for 19 runs in her spell of four overs, which included crucial dismissals of Bess Heath, Freya Kemp, and Sophie Ecclestone, instrumental in limiting England to a modest total of 126 runs in their 20 overs.
"Very happy because it's the first time I am getting a three-for. My coach and parents are watching. Love to continue the performance. The experience I got in WPL and with India A was crucial,” Shreyanka said after the match.
Shreyanka Patil credits Deepti Sharma’s encouragement
The Karnataka all-rounder credited her bowling partnership with Deepti Sharma, India's sole bowler with over 100 wickets in T20Is, for her progress. She acknowledged Sharma's constant encouragement to deliver her best on the field. Notably, she also bowled 12 dot balls, adding pressure on the opposition. The chase saw India securing victory with an over to spare, thanks to Smriti Mandhana's cautious 48 off 48.
“Happy to be chipping in. It's a huge experience for me to be bowling in tandem with Deepti, she is backing me, coming and having a chat on and off the field. Looking forward to the journey. I enjoyed all three wickets. As a bowler, you always look to take wickets, hard to pick one as best," she added.
