Liton Das, the Bangladesh batsman, doesn’t even wish to think about cricket at a time when the world is in the stranglehold of the coronavirus pandemic. The top-order batter was last seen on the field during the Tigers’ home ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe. In the ODIs, he became Bangladesh’s highest individual scorer, notching 176 runs off 143 balls in Sylhet.
Amidst the wrath of the novel virus, the 25-year-old Liton only sounded concerned about weathering the current storm. The Dinajpur-born reckoned that cricket shouldn’t be anyone’s priorities amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.
“At the present situation, cricket is not even in my thoughts. The whole world is in danger. If we can survive, only then we can play or do whatever we were doing. Right now, this is not the time for cricket,” Liton was quoted as saying in an interview with New Age on Monday, April 6.
My wife is ok now: Liton Das
Liton hasn’t had the best of times in the last few weeks. Back on March 27, Liton’s wife Devasri Biswas Sanchita suffered burns on her hands and hair due to a gas cylinder blast. The mishap happened as the cylinder had a hole.
Updating on her, Liton said that his better-half has made fast recovery and the cylinder has also been altered. “She is ok now. Her wounds have recovered. She is not facing any difficulties. After the accident, we changed the faulty cylinder and burners,” he stated. Liton and Devasri tied the knots back in July 2019 when the former skipped the Tigers’ tour of Sri Lanka.
During the lockdown period, Liton has mostly been watching movies to get rid of boredom. Liton, who played for 2019-20 BPL champions Rajshahi Royals, has also been following the guidelines set by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the critical situation.
“I am maintaining my own routine. It is almost same as the BCB prescribed guidelines. I can’t tell you any movie’s name which left a deep mark in my mind because I hardly remember anything after I am finished watching it. I do it just to pass time, for something to look at.” Liton added.
