Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL as of 2024. The star spinner has been a regular in the league since 2014 and has played for three franchises - Mumbai Indians, RCB, and Rajasthan Royals. While he is currently playing for RR, the leg-spinner has played most of his career for RCB. By the end of the IPL 2023, Chahal surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the league, which is a great feat indeed.

The right-arm spinner has a lot of years left in him and would be looking forward to creating more records. He has a good record against most of the teams, which is great. The experienced spinner is a good wicket-taker irrespective of the nature of the wickets. Playing mostly on the flat wickets of M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chahal was brilliant with the ball as a wicket-taking bowler. He is the best Indian spinner in the league and has a name for himself.

Since the IPL 2022, Chahal has been playing for RR. He has been good even for his new team. One of the favourite opponents for Chahal happens to be PBKS. Right from the days when they had the likes of Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, and Mayank Agarwal, to the current times where they have the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prabsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and others, Chahal has been good against all types of batters.

Memorable performances vs Punjab Kings

In 2016, RCB were up against PBKS at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which is considered to be a nightmare for the bowlers. On a belter of a wicket, RCB posted 211 runs on the board when the match was reduced to 15 overs per side. Defending it, Chahal was brilliant with the ball as he claimed 4 wickets in the middle. In his spell of three overs, Chahal conceded just 25 runs and claimed the scalps of batters like Wriddhiman Saha, Gurkeerat Singh, and Farhaan Behardien.

For RR, he bowled a great spell against PBKS in the IPL 2022. The leg-spinner claimed three wickets in the match and conceded just 28 runs in his spell of four overs. When other bowlers went for runs on a flat wicket like Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he claimed the big wickets of Jonny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksha, and Mayank Agarwal. RR ended up winning the match by six wickets, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave a great start and Shimron Hetmyer finished well.

Key Battles for Yuzvendra Chahal vs Punjab Kings

Shikhar Dhawan-Chahal has had a mixed bag while bowling against Dhawan in the IPL. The Haryana spinner has bowled in nine seasons against Dhawan. Yuzi has conceded 106 runs in 78 balls as Shikhar has managed to average 35.3 and maintain an SR of 135.9 against the great spinner. Chahal has managed to dismiss the Southpaw in three instances, which is impressive considering that the left-handers usually bat well against the traditional leg spinners.

Jonny Bairstow-Chahal has bowled to the English batter in four seasons. In 2019, Chahal bowled 6 balls, conceded just 8 runs and dismissed Bairstow once. In 2020, Chahal bowled 12 balls, conceded 8 runs and dismissed Jonny once. In 2021, Chahal bowled 5 balls and conceded 5 runs without dismissing him even once. In 2022, Chahal bowled 5 balls to the star batter, conceded 4 runs and dismissed him once. In total, Chahal has dismissed Bairstow thrice in the league.
