Anamul Haque who has played 45 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Shakib was ruled out due to a fracture of the index finger of his left-hand sustained during Bangladesh’s match against Sri Lanka, yesterday – 6 November.
Shakib got hit on his finger during the match against Sri Lanka and was later taken for scans in New Delhi. X-Ray confirmed fracture in his index finger. Talking on his injury further, National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan explained that the all-rounder would need at least three to four weeks to recover. Notably, Shakib would miss team's last league stage match in the ongoing World Cup as Bangladesh has already been eliminated from the ICC tournament after string of losses.
“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab, Bayjedul told the International Cricket Council (ICC).
