In a recent conversation, cricketer Deep Dasgupta shared his insights on the upcoming clash in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, particularly focusing on the extraordinary form of Virat Kohli and the challenges posed by England's bowling attack. Dasgupta emphasized that the way Virat Kohli has been batting, it seems no English bowler, or any from another team, poses a significant threat to him.
However, he also acknowledged the unpredictability of England's performance, suggesting that their situation as underdogs might make them a more formidable adversary. Dasgupta also expressed his hopes for Kohli to achieve his 49th and 50th centuries during the World Cup, a prediction he had made before the tournament began. With Kohli's current form and determination to secure wins for India, Dasgupta believes it's only a matter of time before these milestones are reached.
Speaking exclusively to Star Sports, Deepdas Gupta spoke on who will be the biggest threat for Virat Kohli, he said – “Look the way Virat has been batting, at the moment it doesn’t look like any English bowler or bowlers from any other team are a threat to him. And if we speak about England’s bowling specifically, they have not really bowled well and consistently in the recent past.
I think one of the major issues for England during the World Cup has been their lack of penetration, and their bowling has lacked any sting, so as such I don’t see any threat. But keep one thing in mind, England might have been off- colour in this tournament and almost knocked out from it, but because they are in this situation and they have nothing to lose, that might make them more dangerous. Because as of now, they have nothing to lose in this tournament. Because England are in this situation and they have nothing to lose, that might make them more dangerous. Look, the way Virat has been batting, at the moment, it doesn’t look like any English bowler or bowlers from any other team are a threat to him.”
Dasgupta spoke on whether Virat Kohli will be able to make his 49th and 50th century in the World Cup, he said, "See, I will obviously want India to win 6 out 6 games and simultaneously Virat to make his 49th century because my prediction before this tournament was that Virat will make his 50th century while playing this world cup only.
So, I have that tension in my mind because I have already said it, so I hope that it ages well. But yes, the form he has right and the way he is performing, it's just a matter of time. Last match, he was close to scoring his 49th century, now he will do it in this match against England and by chance even if he misses in this match, he will definitely do it in the next match but the important part is he's out there chasing down totals, making sure the team is winning and bottom line, that's the most important part but I am sure in the process he will get his 49th and 50th century as well."
