After a good period of break, the refreshed units of England and South Africa would be walking down the field in Kennington Oval to grab the Test series. In the light of their recent heroics in the format, governed by Bazball approach, hosts England were absolute favourites to grab the series but South Africa introduced themselves in the series opener with a big roar. South Africa reigned victorious in the opening Test by an innings and 12 runs at Lord’s as the English batting unit had nightmares in front of the visiting pacers.

However, it was not the end of everything and Ben Stokes and his men pounced back in style in the following Test to name it in their favour by an innings and 85 runs. It looked like the best redemption for the English side as their veterans- Stokes, James Anderson and Stuart Broad stood at the forefront of the victory.

Talking as things stand now, it would be a great chance for both the sturdy units to bag a series wherein England are on the receiving end of a mighty blow in form of Jonny Bairstow’s injury. Talking of their past records, England have had the upper hand in the purest format of the game wherein Dean Elgar and company will need to replicate the heroics of the opening Test to help their cause in the series decider.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions at Kennington Oval are expected to favour pacers yet again where rain might spoil the play on first two days of the third Test. Overcast conditions are expected to prevail for all the five days and skipper winning the toss would prefer to bat first.

Playing XI for ENG vs SA 3rd Test

England

Bairstow suffered a serious injury recently while getting slipped during playing Golf. In this case, England were forced to make a change in their batting order and Harry Brook has been handed debut as per their latest announcement. Stokes, who shined in the last game with his maiden century as the captain of the side, would be expected to carry up the same rhythm.

England - Alex Less, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (w), Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson, Jack Leach, Jimmy Anderson

South Africa

South Africa, who had a dreamy start to the series, lost the following Test match on back of some tactical errors. Marco Jansen, who came up too well in the first game, was kept on sidelines and Simon Harmer was introduced as Keshav Maharaj’s compatriot but thing didn’t go smooth for the touring party. And in this case, Jansen is very likely to walk back into the side.

South Africa - Dean Elgar (c), Sarel Erwee, Keegan Petersen, Aiden Markram/Khaya Zondo, Ryan Rickelton, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi
