India will take on Sri Lanka in Super 4 of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 6, Tuesday. India will come into the game on the back of their first defeat in the tournament, after their loss against Pakistan on Sunday. The hosts, on the other hand, have won two games on the spin and top the Super 4 table after their win over Afghanistan.
India, who came into the tournament as the favourites to win the title, might have to win both their remaining Super 4 matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to qualify for the final. Sri Lanka, after a disappointing loss against Afghanistan on the opening day of the Asia Cup 2022, might be raring to win against India and get one foot in the final.
Pitch and Conditions
The Dubai International Cricket Stadium generally offers a good and flat surface for batting. In each of the last three games, the venue has seen five totals of over 180. And the stage could be set for another high-scoring game with short boundaries in place. The temperatures could be around 35 degrees centigrade during the day, and it is unlikely to get much cooler as the day progresses, taking dew out of the equation.
Playing Combinations for IND vs SL
India
Given that India lost their previous game and also that they do not have room for experimentation, they might revert to their winning combination. If pacer Avesh Khan is available, he might be back in the XI. And the Men in Blue might hand the keeping gloves to Dinesh Karthik instead of Rishabh Pant, as the latter’s poor run of form with the bat continues.
Predicted Playing XI
Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, with the two impressive wins in a row, would look to stick with the same playing XI. Although their bowling department has been the area of concern throughout the competition, the lack of depth in the squad might force them to stick to the same bowling lineup.
Predicted Playing XI
Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Danushka Gunathilaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka
