Kane Williamson's New Zealand brushed aside a lackluster Indian side in the first ODI in Auckland to draw first blood in the three-match series. The visitors posted a decent tally on the scoreboard after solid knocks from Indian openers Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan. Shreyas Iyer took charge in the middle overs, continuing his prolific run in the longer format of the game.

However, it was the Indian bowling unit, that had a disappointing outing as the pair of Kane Williamson, and Tom Latham compiled a record-breaking stand for the fourth wicket, relatively untroubled during their time at the crease. The stand-in Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who opted for just five bowling options, looked short of ideas during the belligerent partnership that decided the outcome of the game.

With the series on the line, the Men in Blue would love to snap their losing streak against the Kiwis in the 50-over format. Meanwhile, the hosts will be adamant about completing another ODI series victory to send a strong message for next year's World Cup in India.
