India and South Africa are all set to face off again in the three-match ODI series, with the first game being contested at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on December 17, Sunday. The multi-format series between both sides started with a T20I series. India and South Africa won one game each, giving the series a tie as the first game was called off due to rain. Following the ODI series, they will square off in a two-match Test series which is part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

Both India and South Africa will be eyeing to seal a victory in the first ODI match. The Proteas have a strong lineup while the visitors have given rest to some of their senior players. Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in the ODI series. Everyone can anticipate a strong fight between both giants.

Wanderers Stadium Pitch Report

The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is one of the most batter-friendly venues in South Africa. The stadium has a flat surface and shorter boundaries which helped batters to score more runs. The toss-winning captain is most likely to opt to bat first at this venue.

Probable Playing XI

South Africa

South Africa, led by Aiden Markram will come up with a strong lineup in the first ODI. Regular white-ball skipper Temba Bavuma is not included in the squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder have been recalled in the ODI squad and are likely to be included in the playing XI. Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen's absence will likely cost them in the ODI series.

Predicted XI: Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Zorzi, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lizaad Williams, Ottniel Bartman

India

Despite the absence of senior players, India could have also come up with a strong lineup. India's rising sensation Sai Sudharsan and Rinku Singh are likely to make their ODI debut. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ishan Kishan, India only has Ruturaj Gaikwad as a specialist opening batter. Washington Sundar is likely to get preferred over Axar Patel. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, who picked up a fifer in the third T20I, is all set to pip Yuzvendra Chahal.

Predicted XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (C)(wk), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh
