Sneh Rana-led Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) are reeling from back-to-back losses in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). Furthermore, they are set to be challenged by Delhi Capitals (DEL-W), a team that has played dominant cricket in the tournament so far.

While Gujarat have chopped and changed their playing XI quite a few times in the earlier games, Delhi have gone from strength to strength and stuck with their core. Both sides are currently placed in the opposite ends of the spectrum as Delhi are second on the points table whereas Gujarat are placed fourth in the standings.

A win in the forthcoming fixture for Delhi will result in them moving a step closer to play-off qualification. On the other hand, Gujarat will also look to obtain a result in their favour to stay in contention for the top three spot. An exciting clash awaits as Delhi and Gujarat cross swords at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 16.

Here is Gujarat Giants’ predicted XI for the match against Delhi Capitals-

Openers: Sabbhineni Meghana, Sophia Dunkley

Sophia Dunkley had a night to forget against Mumbai as she returned back to the pavilion for a duck off the very first ball. However, she is known to be an explosive hitter and she displayed her impressive batting exploits against RCB when she scored 65 runs off 28 balls. She will look to play her natural game against Delhi in the upcoming match.

A string of flop outings in the WPL would certainly hurt Sabbhineni Meghana. While she began with a delicate knock in the previous match, she was unable to convert it into a big score. With the business end of the season approaching, Meghana will need to swiftly fire for the side in the upcoming games.

Middle Order: Harleen Deol, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sushma Verma (wk), Annabel Sutherland

Harleen Deol has been one of the finest players in the Giants’ squad so far. Speaking about her performances with the bat, Harleen has been able to get runs swiftly and has managed to score big in two of the matches played so far. Her highest score of the tournament came against Royal Challengers Bangalore when she scored 67 runs off 45 deliveries. She also played an impactful innings of 46 runs against UP Warriorz.

Dayalan Hemalatha made a promising start to the tournament scoring a fighting 29* in the first match, before following that up with an unbeaten 21 off 13 deliveries against UP Warriorz in the second. Although her run graph then took a dip, she would be keen to get back to form before it gets too late.

Annabel Sutherland, on the other hand, has had a disastrous outing so far in the WPL and has only managed to add paltry scores of 8, 6 and 14 to her name. In the last match against Mumbai Indians, she went back to the pavilion without even scoring a run.

Sushma Verma would mostly like to forget this tournament too as she hasn't been of much help to her team either. Gujarat Giants have been struggling with a middle order collapse regularly and would look to reverse it in the next match.

All-rounders: Ashleigh Gardner, Sneh Rana (c), Kim Garth

In the last match, Asleigh Gardner relished one of her finest performances with the ball as she got a three-wicket haul against the Indians. However, batters have found it easy to target her especially taking the shorter boundaries to their advantage to get the big runs. In any case, she will prove to be a vital cog both with bat and ball against Delhi.

Skipper Sneh Rana was at her best in the last outing as she returned stunning bowling figures of 1/17 in her four overs. Her performances with the bat have not been impactful yet in the league but she will look to replicate similar bowling innings against Delhi.

Down the middle-order, Kim Garth is yet to produce a game-changing knock for her side. However, she has fared well with the ball getting wickets at crucial moments. Garth will aim to play a key role against Delhi in the upcoming clash.

Bowlers: Mansi Joshi, Tanuja Kanwar

Mansi Joshi did not get her chance with the ball in the previous clash against table-toppers Mumbai Indians. However, her form has not been quite impressive as she has leaked runs at a massive rate and failed to obtain major breakthroughs. However, she will have a point to prove assuming she gets a chance with the ball against Delhi.

Compared to her prior performances, Tanuja Kanwar showed slight improvement with the ball against Mumbai. A wicket and 32 runs off her four overs marked her outing against the current best side in the WPL. She will aim to improve further and look to add more wickets to her name.

Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W):

Sabbhineni Meghana, Sophia Dunkley, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner, Dayalan Hemalatha, Annabel Sutherland, Sushma Verma (wk), Kim Garth, Tanuja Kanwar, Sneh Rana (c), Mansi Joshi
