Mumbai Indians (MUM-W) will lock horns with Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) in the third match of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, February 25. The clash against Gujarat will be the defending champions' second game in this tournament after they defeated Delhi Capitals in the 2024 WPL opener at the same venue.

The two teams' campaigns were diametrically opposed in the inaugural edition. Despite having a seasoned team, the Giants finished at the bottom of the table while the table-toppers Mumbai emerged as the eventual champions. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is bolstered by the services of plenty of experienced players like Hayley Mathews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, and Shabnim Ismail, among others.

Meanwhile, Giants' captain Beth Mooney was ruled out of the 2023 WPL after she suffered an injury in the opening game as Sneh Rana assumed the captaincy for the side. Rana was unable to turn around the team's results. However, this season, Mooney is set to make her return as the captain. With the likes of Laura Wolvaadrt, Veda Krishnamurthy, Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, and Rana, Gujarat would hope for an improved performance this year.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium Pitch Report

M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is known for its batting-friendly surfaces. The flat surface and short boundaries lead to high-scoring games at the venue. The captain who wins the toss would be inclined to field first.
