South Africa and the West Indies kicked off their multi-format series with a two-Test series. Both sides locked horns in the first Test at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on August 7.

The clash began with South Africa coming in to bat first, and the hosts opened their account early with Jason Holder taking the wicket of opener Aiden Markram, who scored just nine runs in 34 balls before being showed the way to the pavilion. However, Markram’s partner, Tony de Zorzi, showed resilience and scored an unbeaten 32 in 52 deliveries. Furthermore, Tristan Stubbs stayed unbeaten on a score of two runs in five deliveries.

Shortly after the commencement of the first Test, rain played spoilsport, limiting the play to just 15 overs, as no more cricket was possible. The two teams will continue the proceedings on the second day and will hope for a clear sky. At stumps, Proteas ended on a score of 45/1.
