Cricket South Africa announces the support staff under coach Gibson

The batting, fielding, assistant coach as well as trainers, managers, etc were named.

Cricket South Africa on Thursday declared the appointment of the Proteas support staff. Under the guise of coach Ottis Gibson, the men who will fill the positions such as that of the batting, fielding, assistant coach as well as trainers, managers, etc were announced.

Warriors coach Malibongwe Maketa was appointed as the assistant coach. Dale Benkenstein and Justin Ontong were handed over the roles of batting and fielding coach respectively. Claude Henderson was retained as the spin bowling coach while Greg King too managed to hold on to his position as the fitness trainer.

Proteas coach Gibson remarked that his initial days as the coach helped him understand the areas of concern. He further described that the whole management believed in having the same vision for the team’s success.

“My first six weeks as head coach gave me a good indication of the areas and resources needed for me to take the team forward, I’m confident with the coaching support staff we have put together and believe we share the same vision and understanding required to achieve success in our environment,” he added.

Speaking about the technicalities of the coaches, Gibson stated that the professional setup would be a valuable asset to the South African team.

‘The coaches are experienced experts in their respective fields and will add value and energy to an already high-performing environment. The Proteas have a well-run and professional setup and I have no doubt that these additions will further enhance that element during my tenure,” he further mentioned.

Other decisions by the CSA

The South African team manager Mohammed Moosajee’s contract was extended until April 2018. The board of directors decided to approve the same in the meeting. However, since Moosajee holds two roles, i.e. team manager as well as the team doctor, the board will have to fill up two spots later on.
