Cricket Stadium in Kerala to be named after Sachin Tendulkar:The association of Sachin Tendulkar with Kerala does not seem to start and end with Football. The master blaster who is the co owner of Indian Super league franchise Kerala Blasters is all set to be honoured by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). TC Mathew, the KCA president today revealed that the association has decided to name one of its stadia after the former Indian legend. Mathew said on Friday that while there was a pavilion at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here named after Tendulkar, the KCA was going to name an entire stadium after him.
“We have not decided which one because we have the newly opened cricket stadium in Wayanad and we have other stadiums also that are fast nearing completion. The decision will be taken shortly. He (Sachin) will also be consulted,” Mathew told IANS.
The new stadium built by the KCA in Wayanad recently hosted the two four-day matches between South Africa A and India A. While the first unofficial Test was a draw, India A won the second one by an innings and 81 runs. It is one of the most picturesque grounds in the country, with mountains on three sides. Mathew added that the KCA plans to work closely with Tendulkar as in another two years they will set up a state-of-the-art cricket ground in each of the 14 districts of Kerala.
“What we are planning is a multi-sports facility centre attached to each of our upcoming cricket grounds. We are interested in providing facilities for our new generation in other sports also. We wish to speak to Tendulkar if he will be willing to partner us in this project,” said Mathew.
The 42-year-old Sachin was earlier roped in as the goodwill ambassador of the 35th National Games, held between January and February this year in Kerala. The cricketer spearheaded the ‘Run Kerala Run’ initiative, which was one of the promotional campaigns of the Games and wrote itself into record books with a massive turnout. Meanwhile, reports have also emerged that Tendulkar is set to own a luxury waterfront villa in the state, and he has shortlisted one of them in Panangad.
