Asian sides Bangladesh and India begin their 2023 World Cup preparations as both lock horns in a three-match One-Day International series slated to take place from Sunday, December 04, 2022, at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Rohit Sharma, who missed the recent New Zealand tour, returns as skipper while injured Tamim Iqbal is replaced by Litton Das as Bangladeshi captain.
The Men in Blue led by Shikar Dhawan lost the ODI series 1-0 (3) to New Zealand in what turned out to be a rain-affected series. Senior players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit who all were out of action against the Kiwis, are back for this series as a star-studded Indian team starts their mission 2023 against a strong-looking Bangladeshi side in their own conditions.
Though the home side suffered a setback with regular captain Tamim Iqbal getting ruled out of the series, experienced campaigners like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah are all part of the squad as the Bangla Tigers look to provide tough competition to the Indians on home soil. Notably, both teams last met in the format in the 2019 WC when India defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs. India’s last visit to these shores in 2015 ended in disappointment as they lost the ODIs by a 2-1 margin, the series where pacer Mashrafe Mortaza announced himself on the international circuit.
