Mehidy Hasan Miraz stole the show yet again as he slammed his maiden century to help Bangladesh  win the second encounter by five runs and take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series against India.

Coming in to bat at no. eight, Mehidy shared 148-run partnership with Mahmudullah for the seventh wicket as he struck an unbeaten 100 off just 83 deliveries, which included eight fours and four maximums. Experienced campaigner Mahmudullah amassed 77 as the Bangla Tigers reached a competitive total of 271/7 in 50 overs in Mirpur.

Earlier, skipper Litton Das won the toss and opted to bat. He made just seven while his opening partner Anamul Haque went for 11, both falling prey to pacer Mohammed Siraj. Bangladesh’s middle order collapsed as veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim managed just eight and 12 respectively.

The home side was in dire straits at 69/6 and that is when Mehidy and Mahmudullah joined hands. The duo registered the highest seventh-wicket partnership against India in ODIs, surpassing Upul Chandana and Mahela Jayawardene’s stand of 126* in 2005. Washington Sundar was the pick of the Indian bowlers for his spell of 3/37 in ten overs.

Chasing 277, Virat Kohli came to open the innings for injured Rohit Sharma and could manage to score only five. Shikhar Dhawan also fell for just eight while stand-in captain KL Rahul mustered only 14. Shreyas Iyer’s purple patch in the ODIs continued as he smashed 82 while all-rounder Axar Patel brought up his second fifty in the format, scoring a run-a-ball 56.

Rohit, with a broken thumb, came in to bat at no. nine and start hitting it straightaway. He slammed a 27-ball half-century but it wasn’t enough at the end as the visitors lost the game by a narrow margin. With this, Bangladesh have now won their second successive ODI series against India on home soil. For his maiden ton and a spell of 2/46 in 6.1 overs, Mehidy Hasan Miraz grabbed the Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from the 2nd ODI between Bangladesh and India:
