Six players from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crossed the 20-run mark as they posted 167/8 on the board, eventually beating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs in match No. 55 of IPL 2023 on a slow-turning surface in Chennai. Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali delivered solid spells of 1/19 and 0/16, respectively, as the Capitals got restricted to 140/8 in 20 overs.

Speaking about how the game unfolded, skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 24 while his opening partner Devon Conway suffered a rare failure as got dismissed for just ten. Hard-hitter Shivam Dube played a cameo of 25 off 12, which included three towering maximums, while Ambati Rayudu, in his 200th IPL game, mustered 23 off 17. Dhoni played a brief knock of 20 off just nine as the home side reached a total of above 165. Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the DC bowlers for his spell of 3/18 (3).

In reply, captain David Warner went cheaply for a two-ball duck while wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt got out for 17 off 11. Pacer Deepak Chahar got rid of both the openers as he looked to get back into his rhythm. Marsh got run out for five, with Manish Pandey heading back to the pavilion after scoring 27 off 29. Rilee Rossouw played a slow knock of 35 off 37 before falling prey to spinner Ravindra Jadeja. The Capitals’ batting failed yet again as they lost their seventh consecutive IPL match against CSK in Chennai. Deepak Chahar took 2/28 (3), while Matheesha Pathirana snared three scalps for 37 runs in his four-over spell as the visitors' struggle at the venue continued.
