India vs Australia 2nd ODI Stats Preview: Players' records and approaching milestones

India, after defeating Australia in the first game, would try to replicate the same in the next game to eye another series win in 2023. India would be happy with the return of their regular skipper Rohit Sharma. The action now moves to Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam where both teams will meet for the second time in the three-match ODI series on 19^th March, 2023.

Talking about the first game, India won the toss and opted to field at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Siraj continued his powerplay dominance as Travis Head succumbed to his heat in the second over. Captain Steve Smith joined hands with Mitchell Marsh to rescue Australia as the duo added 72 runs for the second wicket.

Once the partnership started to trouble India, it was captain Hardik Pandya who did the damage by dismissing Steve Smith. However, Mitchell Marsh continued to play his brand of cricket as he, along with Marnus Labuschagne, added another 52 runs for the third wicket. Marsh amassed 81 runs which included 10 fours and five maximums.

Just when the partnership was going well, in came Pandya's trusted lieutenant Ravindra Jadeja who dismissed well-set Marsh in the 20^th over. Australia never recovered once they lost their highest run scorer of the match, as they lost seven of their wickets for just 49 runs, eventually being bowled out for 188 inside 36 overs.

In response to that, India lost the first four wickets in quick succession as Starc ripped the Indian top order with his fiery Yorkers. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya led the recovery as the duo added 44 runs for the fifth wicket.

The set Hardik Pandya was sent back by the brilliance of Marcus Stoinis with the scorecard reading 83/5 in the 20th over. Meanwhile, KL Rahul batted with patience and was ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja as the duo together added 108 runs in a calm and composed partnership to take India across the line by five wickets.

KL Rahul rose to his 13^th half-century whereas Ravindra Jadeja was phenomenal with both bat and ball scoring an unbeaten 45 runs and picking up two wickets.
