Skipper Suryakumar Yadav smashed 80 off just 42 which included nine fours and four maximums as Team India defeated Australia by a margin of two wickets in the opening T20 international in Visakhapatnam. Josh Inglis’ solid century (110 off 50) went in vain as the Men in Blue registered their highest-ever run-chase of 209/8 in the shortest international format. The action now moves to Thiruvananthapuram for the second match of the series to be played on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
Speaking in detail about the series opener, the recently-crowned World Champions Australia batted first and posted a massive total of 208/3 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Steven Smith opened the innings and managed to score 52 off 41. But it was Inglis who stole the limelight with his maiden international hundred. The right-handed batter smashed 11 fours and eight maximums in his counter-attacking knock.
Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers for his brilliant spell of 0/29 (4). In the run-chase, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan struck 58 off 39 while captain Suryakumar again displayed his T20 brilliance. The right-handed player is a completely different personality when it comes to the 20-over format and he proved it yet again with a match-winning innings. The home side will now look to take a 2-0 lead in the series while the Aussies may welcome back WC hero Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell to strengthen their squad.
