The top three Indian batters Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ishan Kishan all smashed their respective half-centuries as India posted a massive total of 235/4 on the board eventually winning the second T20 international against Australia by 44 runs in Thiruvananthapuram. With this, the home side has now taken a 2-0 lead in the series with three games left to play.

Speaking in detail about how the game panned out, skipper Matthew Wade won the toss and opted to field first. Gaikwad and Jaiswal struck 58 and 53 respectively while Kishan racked up a quickfire 52 off 32. Pocket dynamo Rinku Singh provided the finishing touches as he hammered an unbeaten 31 off just nine which included four fours and two maximums.

Seamer Nathan Ellis was the pick of the Aussie bowlers for his spell of 3/45 in four overs. Sean Abbott had a forgettable outing as he conceded 56 runs for no wickets in his three-over spell. Chasing a mammoth target of 236, the opening pair of Steven Smith and Matthew Short amassed 19 runs each. The centurion from the last match, Josh Inglis was dismissed for just two while Glenn Maxwell scored only 12. The destructive duo of Marcus Stoinis and Tim David slammed 45 and 37 respectively, but the target proved out of their reach. Wicketkeeper-batter Wade remained not out on 42 off but could not quite take his side home in a big run-chase.
