Suryakumar Yadav’s phenomenal knock of 69 off 36 balls which included five fours and as many maximums and Virat Kohli’s 63-run knock helped India chase down the target of 187 in the third T20I against Australia and seal the three-match series 2-1 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Half-centuries from Cameron Green and Tim David went in vain as the Australians got blown away by a 104-run partnership between Suryakumar and Kohli. With this, India have now won the most T20Is (21) in a calendar year surpassing Pakistan’s record of 20 victories in 2021.

India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first in the third game. Cameron Green’s solid run with the willow continued as he went berserk right from ball one to smash 52 off just 21 deliveries with seven fours and three maximums.

His 19-ball half-century turned out to be the fastest against the Men in Blue in T20 internationals. Captain Aaron Finch and Steven Smith made only seven and nine respectively while Glenn Maxwell amassed six and ended a horror series aggregating just seven runs in three games.

Power-hitter Tim David also flexed his muscles as the Singapore-born batter registered his maiden fifty for Australia. He struck 54 off 27 with two fours and four sixes while Daniel Sams hit an unbeaten 28-run knock to take the visitor’s total to 186/7. Jasprit Bumrah had a miserable outing as he leaked 50 runs for the first time in his T20I career.

Chasing 187, KL Rahul and Rohit accumulated just one and 17 respectively. Then the Kohli-Suryakumar show began as both shared a century partnership to help the hosts near the target. The former smashed three fours and four maximums in his knock as he brought up his 33rd half-century in the format.

Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 25 off 16 balls at the end to seal the deal for the home side in 19.5 overs. For his match-winning fifty, Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the Match award while Axar Patel was adjudged the Player of the Series for picking up eight wickets.
