Despite Ashwin's absence, India restricted England to a much lower total, bowling them out from 224/3 to 319. Yashasvi Jaiswal then smashed a century before retiring hurt on 104. By the end of the day, India reached 196/2, extending their lead past 320.

Early in the day, Bumrah provided the first breakthrough by dismissing an experienced Joe Root for just 18. He was followed by Johnny Bairstow, who was dismissed for a duck by Kuldeep Yadav. Ben Duckett managed to reach a well-made 150 before being dismissed by the wrist-spinner.

Unfortunately, the English batting order then collapsed and were eventually bowled out for 319. Leading by 126, India's start was collapsed by England's Joe Root, who dismissed skipper Rohit Sharma for just 19 runs, leaving India at 30-1. However, Jaiswal and Gill steadied the ship, building a solid partnership of 155 runs.

Jaiswal reached his century in style before retiring hurt on 104, while Gill remained unbeaten on 65. Rajat Patidar unfortunately fell for a duck to Tom Hartley, but Kuldeep Yadav stood as the night watchman, ending the day on 3* with India's score at 196-2. This extends India's lead to 322.
