India vs England, 3rd Test Day 4 Stats Review: India’s biggest victory in Tests, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s feat, and other stats

Youngster Yashavi Jaiswal smashed yet another double century, second in the series, while Ravindra Jadeja picked up a five-wicket haul as India thrashed England to register their biggest victory in the longest format of the game by a mammoth margin of 434 runs in Rajkot. With this win, Rohit Sharma and his side have now taken a 2-1 lead in the series with two matches still to play.

Speaking in detail about how Day 4 panned out, Shubman Gill got run-put for 91 as he missed out on a well-deserved. The day belonged to young sensation Jaiswal, who slammed another double hundred. The left-handed opening player struck 214 not out off just 236 which included 14 fours and 12 towering maximums. 

Debutant Sarfaraz Khan enjoyed another good outing in the middle as he made his maiden Test more memorable by hitting another half-century. The right-handed middle-order batter remained unbeaten on 68 off 72 with the help of six fours and three sixes. The home declared their second innings at 430/4, setting a massive target of 557 for Ben Stokes and his men.

The visitors struggled in a massive run chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett were dismissed for 11 and four runs respectively. Out-of-form batters Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow continue to disappoint as they bagged yet another low score. The former got out for seven while Bairstow for four.

Batting at no. 10, fast bowler Mark Wood top-scored for his side with his knock of 33. Jadeja spun his web with his spell of 5/41 with four maidens in 12.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav also picked up two wickets as England got bowled out cheaply for just 122. For his century in the first innings and seven scalps in the game, Jadeja grabbed the Player of the Match award.

434 – India registered their biggest victory in Tests in terms of runs (434). Previously, they beat New Zealand by a margin of 372 runs in Mumbai (WS) in the year 2021.

12 – Yashasvi Jaiswal has now struck the joint-most sixes (12) in a Test innings. Wasim Akram also smashed 12 against Zimbabwe in Sheikhupura in 1996.

22 – Jaiswal has hit the most sixes (22) by a batter in a bilateral Test series. Rohit Sharma is second on the list for smashing 19 against South Africa in the 2019 series.

12.83 – Joe Root has managed to score just 77 runs in six innings at a poor average of 12.83 and with the highest score of 29 in the ongoing series.

4 – Sarfaraz Khan became the fourth Indian to hit a 50-plus score in each innings on Test debut. The other three are Dilawar Hussain against England in Kolkata in 1934, Sunil Gavaskar against West Indies in Port of Spain in 1971, and Shreyas Iyer against New Zealand in Kanpur in 2021.

28 – Team India struck 28 sixes in this game, which is the most by a team in a Test match. The Asian giants are only in the second position for hitting 27 against South Africa in Visakhapatnam in 2019.

2 – Jaiswal is now joint-top with Virat Kohli and Vinoo Mankad for slamming two double centuries for India in a Test series. Kohli did the job against Sri Lanka in 2017 while Mankad achieved it against New Zealand in the 1955/56 season.

2 – England suffered their second-biggest defeat in terms of runs (434). Their largest one came against Australia by a margin of 562 runs at The Oval in 1934.

12 – Jaiswal is now joint-second with Akram for hitting 12 sixes in a match. Rohit tops the list with 13 maximums against the Proteas in Visakhapatnam in 2019.

3 – Jaiswal became the third Indian to slam a double century in consecutive Tests. Vinod Kambli did the job against England and Zimbabwe in 1992/93 and Virat Kohli against Sri Lanka in 2017 (Nagpur and Delhi).

102 – Jonny Bairstow has amassed just 102 runs in six innings at an average of 17 and with the highest score of 37 in the ongoing series.
