The first-ever clash between India and Nepal in international cricket is set to take place during the ODI Asia Cup on September 4th at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. This tournament, occurring ahead of the 2023 World Cup, is poised to provide valuable practice opportunities for players from across the globe.

Nepal has already participated in its opening match of the Asia Cup against Pakistan, where they suffered a significant defeat by a margin of 238 runs. The Pakistani team exhibited dominance both with the bat and the ball, making it a challenging contest for Nepal. The Nepali team secured its place in this tournament by winning the 2023 ACC Men's Premier Cup.

Kushal Malla emerged as the top run-scorer for Nepal in the tournament, amassing a total of 238 runs at an impressive average of 79.33. Following closely behind were Rohit Paudel with 187 runs and Bhim Sharki with 147 runs. The leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane shone as Nepal's highest wicket-taker, claiming a total of 13 wickets. He was followed by Karan KC with 10 wickets and Lalit Rajbanshi with 9 wickets.

On the other hand, India also contested their opening match of the tournament against Pakistan, which unfortunately was washed out due to adverse weather conditions. India faced a shaky start with Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (4) being dismissed early. Subsequently, Shubman Gill (10) and Shreyas Iyer (14) also departed swiftly, leaving India struggling at 66/4.

However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya managed to save the innings with impressive half-centuries, amassing 82 and 87 runs, respectively. Their partnership yielded a solid 138 runs, contributing significantly to India's total of 266 all out. Unfortunately, the match was disrupted by rain shortly thereafter, leading to its abandonment. Virat Kohli boasts an extraordinary record in ODIs, amassing 12,902 runs at a remarkable average of 57.08. This includes 65 half-centuries and 46 centuries.
