Shreyas Iyer’s second ODI century and Ishan Kishan’s knock of 93 stole the show as India defeated South Africa convincingly by seven wickets in the second match in Ranchi. Half-centuries from Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram went in vain as the Proteas failed to defend the target of 279 against the two young Indian batters. The final game and the decider now take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Notably, this will be the last international match for both sides before they participate in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Speaking in detail of the second encounter in Ranchi, Hendricks, who played his first game on the tour struck 74 and he was well supported by Aiden Markram who racked up 75. In-form players Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller amassed 30 and 35 respectively as the Proteas reached a competitive total of 278/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Mohammed Siraj’s good form in the 50-overs format continued as he took figures of 3/38 in ten overs.

Indian openers Shubman Gill and skipper Shikhar Dhawan could not do much as both had a brief stay in the middle. Kishan then registered his highest ODI score of 93 while Iyer, who is in red-hot form in the format, brought up his second hundred. The hosts reached the target comfortably in 45.5 overs to level the series. Having already sealed the T20I series 2-1, Dhawan and his side will look to beat the Proteas with the same margin and grab yet another series. On the other hand, Proteas would hope to sign off the tour with one series victory under their belt.
