Kuldeep Yadav delivered a terrific bowling spell, while Ravindra Jadeja was also brilliant with the ball. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma scored back-to-back three half-centuries in this Asia Cup and also completed his 10,000 runs in ODIs. These outstanding performances helped India defeat Sri Lanka by a margin of 41 runs and secure their place in the final of the Asia Cup.
Speaking about how the game unfolded, skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a quickfire opening start, scoring 65 runs in the first ten overs. They both added 80 runs in their opening partnership. Dunith Wellalage delivered back-to-back three wickets in consecutive overs, dismissing Rohit on 53 off 48, Gill on 19 off 25, and Kohli on 3 off 12. After that, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan made a 63-run partnership.

Once again, Wellalage broke the partnership, and Rahul was dismissed for 39 off 44. From the other end, Asalanka took four wickets in quick succession, with Ishan departing on 33 off 61, and Jadeja getting out very soon after scoring only 4 runs. In the end, Axar played some good shots and scored 26 runs in 36 balls, helping India reach a defending total of 213/10 in 49.1 overs.
In reply, Bumrah and Siraj took the wickets of the host team's top order. Firstly, Bumrah dismissed Nissanka for 6 runs, and then Kusal Mendis was out for 15 runs. In the next over, Siraj took another wicket, that of Karunaratne, who scored only 2 runs. A small cameo was played by Aslanka and Dhananjaya De Silva, scoring 22 runs and 41 runs, respectively. Wellalage remained unbeaten with 42 runs but couldn't help the host team secure a win. Then the spinners came into the game, with Kuldeep taking a 4-wicket haul and Jadeja picking up 2 wickets. Dunith Wellalage grabbed the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.
