Punjab Kings (PBKS) lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match No.2 of the sixteenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) on a double header Super Saturday, April 01, 2023, at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Both sides will meet again in the reverse fixture on May 08 at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.
Speaking about PBKS, Shikhar Dhawan will don the captaincy hat in the competition as he looks to end the trophy drought for the franchise. The Kings have never lifted the coveted trophy with their best season coming in 2014 when they reached the summit clash only to lose to KKR itself. PBKS have failed to reach the playoffs in the last eight consecutive seasons and would want to break that jinx in IPL 2023.
On the other hand, KKR won the title twice in 2012 and 2014 both under the stewardship of former India player Gautam Gambhir. In 2021, the Kolkata-based franchise managed to reach the finals but lost the ultimate clash to Chennai Super Kings.
Speaking about the players, PBKS brought in Zimbabwean Sikandar Raza and also purchased the most-expensive player in the history of the tournament, Sam Curran. KKR also have some new faces like Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Litton Das, Shardul Thakur, and David Wiese in their ranks as they also look forward to starting the season on a positive note.
