In match no. 21 of IPL 2024, Lucknow Super Giants' bowlers, defending only 163, came up with an inspired performance to set up a 33-win victory over the Gujarat Titans in Lucknow. LSG have won three consecutive matches after losing their first and have climbed to third place on the points table while GT slumped to a second consecutive defeat and now find themselves in seventh place.

Electing to bat first, LSG were dealt early blows by Umesh Yadav (2 for 22) and reduced to 18/2 in the third over of the innings. Skipper KL Rahul (33 off 31) and Marcus Stoinis (58 off 43) rebuilt the innings from the ground up, but it was the final push by Nicholas Pooran (32 off 22) and Ayush Badoni (20 off 11) that made sure LSG crossed a rather talismanic 160.

Gujarat Titans started very well racing up to 54 in the powerplay when Player of the Match Yash Thakur (5 for 30) removed GT skipper Shubman Gill. From that point on, Gt lost 3 wickets for just five runs in a space of 11 balls when Krunal Pandya (3 for 11) dismissed Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) and BR Sharath in the same over. Once Pandya saw the back of Darshan Nalkande in the 13th over, GT had lost all hope and Yash Thakur completed the job in sublime fashion.

130 - This is GT's second-lowest total in the IPL. This means that, they are the fourth team so far in IPL history to never be all out for a total below 100. The other three - Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions - are defunct.

5/30 - Yash Thakur's figures are the joint second-best against GT in the IPL. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had taken identical figures against them in 2023, while the best is Umran Malik's 5/22 in 2022.

5/30 - Yash Thakur's figures are the second-best at Lucknow in the IPL, and third-best at Lucknow in all T20s. Mark Wood had 5/14 vs DC in IPL 2023, while Karim Janat took 5/11 against West Indies in 2019. These three innings are the only five-wicket hauls in all T20s at Lucknow.

13 - LSG registered their 13th win in the IPL while defending a target of 160 or more. While nowhere near the top in terms of the number of wins, LSG's win percentage while defending totals above 160 is 100%. They are the only team in IPL history to win every match where they have had to defend a target above 160.
