Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 48 of the 17th edition of the IPL 2024 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, in Lucknow.

Super Giants will be playing their sixth match at home. In the ongoing tournament, the Super Giants have won five matches and lost four matches so far. They are currently the fifth in the points table, thus, the Super Giants would like to come back to their winning momentum.

On the other hand, the Indians have started the season slowly as Indians have won three matches and lost six matches so far. They are currently the ninth in the points table. Thus, the Indians also would like to come back to their winning momentum.  This will be an important game for both teams concerning the future of the tournament.

These two teams' last meeting was in match 72 of the IPL 2023 which was an eliminator match at Chennai where Super Giants were bundled out for 101 in the absence of Skipper Rahul and Indians won the match by 81 Runs. Indians posted a decent total of 182 courtesy of Cameron Green 41(23) and Suryakumar Yadav 33(20) who played superbly. In response Speaking of bowling, Akash Madhwal (3.3-0-5-5) bowled a fantastic spell which helped Indians to restrict Super Giants to just 101. As a result, the Indians won the game with a huge margin of 81 runs.

Ekana Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

After LSG posted 199 in the first innings of the first at this stadium in this year's IPL, the highest score in seven subsequent innings has been 180. In the previous IPL 2024 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, it was Rajasthan Royals, who chased down 197 runs against Lucknow Super Giants, the highest chase at this venue in the history of the tournament.

With that, the average first innings score of 161 will be something that both LSG and MI have to eclipse by a substantial margin to compete well in their upcoming contest. So even for this match, a slow stadium is expected with the par score being in the range of the late 160s or early 170s.

LSG vs MI Strategies & Match-ups

Each of the last three matches played at this stadium has been won by the chasing team. This should give some indication that chasing has become easier than before on this ground instead of the recent trend this year. Both teams will be aware of this fact and try to use it to their advantage. The important match-ups for this match are KL Rahul vs Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav vs Ravi Bishnoi respectively

KL Rahul vs Jasprit Bumrah

It would be a very obvious move on MI's part to try and counter the dangerous and in-form KL Rahul with the highest wicket-taker of IPL 2024, and it would not be a wrong move, as Bumrah has dismissed Rahul once in 112 balls. Rahul has scored 143 runs off these deliveries at a fantastic average of 71.5 and a strike rate of 127.67. He was one of the few successful batters against Bumrah.

Suryakumar Yadav vs Ravi Bishnoi

The world No. 1 batter Suryakumar Yadav has scored 39 runs in 32 balls at a strike rate of 121.87 against the spinner where whereas Bishoni has dismissed Suryakumar Yadav thrice. This will be a very crucial contest against Ravi Bishnoi, especially in the middle overs where Yadav's skills against spin will be needed on a spin-friendly pitch.

X-Factors for LSG vs MI

Lucknow Super Giants

Marcus Stoinis was the man responsible for LSG's previous win, and he will be gunning to go again. His newfound form at No. 3 will be key to LSG's chances in this match.

Mumbai Indians

The joint highest wicket-taker of this season so far, Jasprit Bumrah's godly bowling skills will be the most potent bowling weapon either side will have at their disposal. He will be MI's best hope to contain whatever high total LSG put up
